Craft supplies storage

I live in a small apartment, so storing my craft supplies remains a big challenge for me. I try to stay organized and tidy, but the laws of entropy apply as much to yarn as to anything else.

I’ve taken to stacking yarn in some shelving units in my hallway. The shelves flank a small bench that also has baskets underneath (for slippers).

I’ve used fishing tackle boxes for years, to store my cosmetics, knitting needles and crochet hooks, beads, and sewing notions. If you look carefully in the box above, you can spot a few tatting shuttles and some abandoned tatting. I need to get back to tatting at some point soon. I really enjoyed learning that craft, which my great-grandmother practiced, and I fear is disappearing.

I am a big advocate of recycling, upcycling, and making life easier “on the cheap, ” but with style, bien sûr. If I have an unattractive box that happens to be a useful size, I’ve been known to break out the wrapping paper and dress it up. I did just that with a cardboard box that fits a special collection of crochet threads.

What are your favorite craft storage ideas? I’d love to hear from you.

Stay tuned for more peeks at my yarn stash, my storage solutions, and what I eventually do with all this crafty treasure. Have a great day!
