My Makes

Finished amigurumi: Ava the Mermaid

I finally finished Ava the Mermaid, after having put her aside for several weeks. She was a real joy to make, and has her own mini wardrobe. I also gave Ava very long hair so it has some styling versatility. Today I took her out on my walk with Bodhi so I could get some outdoor photos – we’ve had such heavy rain these last few days, so it’s good to be able to get outside again.

Ava’s body, dress, and fishtail are crocheted with 3.25mm hook and Phildar Coton 3, my favorite amigurumi yarn. The yarn has a pleasing stitch definition and very subtle sheen. Her hair is Austermann Kid Silk, a beautiful mohair/silk blend with a halo. It was a little challenging to control her hair, since it’s so densely woven in. Braiding it tightly and leaving it for a couple of days, then releasing it, calmed it down a lot. Then I tried a couple of up-do’s and pigtails, tying it up with some of my own hair clips.

Her face is simply created with blue safety eyes, a small embroidered mouth, and a bit of blush at the cheeks. The body is reinforced with 2mm wire and poly fill.

This pattern comes from the talented Lydiawlc Magic Wonderland. Her patterns are available on Ravelry and Etsy.
