My Makes

Playing around with new yarn

Just want to squeeze in one more craft update before the end of August! I have load of WIPs underway at the moment, and my uni semester is about to begin. Here’s where some of my projects stand today.

I ordered a few colors of Drops Kid Silk, a 70/30 mohair/silk lace-weight yarn that I had in mind for making a really long, drapey shawl. I started using strands of two colors together, off white and lavender. It is a bit denser than I planned, but I do like the result, and will keep going on this to see where it leads.

I may try another experiment with one strand of the rosy brown shade, and see where that goes. In any case, it’s such nice, fluffy yarn and will be cozy in the winter.

I’ve also been slowly adding to a massive granny square that will become an everyday shrug. I do about one round per evening, so maybe I’ll be finished with it by October? Yes, just in time to put it away for the winter…

I’ve also made a bit more progress on the Fedde stole. This thing is going to be huge! But I love it. I look forward to getting some photos of me wearing it outside. The Shibui Pebble yarn makes for such a supple garment.

That’s all I have to show you today, but I do have some new things on the horizon. I’ve just picked up an amigurumi pattern for a tractor – yes, the farming vehicle. More details on that one, soon!

Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with two photos. Flowers welcome the transition into Autumn. The nights will start to gradually cool down here in the next couple of weeks. Also, I’m celebrating one year with my adopted boy, Bodhi. I brought him home late last August. I’ll write a post about his story one day soon.
