My Neighborhood

Lilacs at home with me

April is flower month in Korea, and we all have our favorites that we wait for, be they cherry blossoms, magnolias, or azaleas. Mine happen to be lilacs, an ephemeral beauty whose fragrance I love so much, I’ve made it a tradition to keep a sturdy pair of scissors in my bag from April 1st in case I encounter a chance lilac shrub during my ramblings.

Not to worry; I don’t steal from anyone’s yard – they always come from the expansive overgrown landscape on my campus or nearby my home. There are surprise lilac bushes in corners all around my neighborhood.

I got my little lilac bunch today, and a second treat for the eyes happened when I went downtown and saw that the streets had been lined with tulips.
