Finally, my biggest ami project to date is done: the technicolor millipede has been unleashed! From nose to rump, he measures 140cm (55 inches – or 4 feet, 7 inches). He has 108 blue feet, and neon green antennae that measure 12cm (5 inches).

I haven’t given him a name yet. The pattern is from Projectarian, where he’s called Shuttle the Shongololo. He has been in the works for a couple of months. I started by making the antennae, using a DK acrylic yarn and a hook slightly smaller than usual, to make the stitches super tight. For the head and upper body, I held together two strands of variegated yarn (with some odd splashes thrown in for interest), and the belly was done with a Lion Brand chunky acrylic in a shade of ivory. The feet are bright blue acrylic DK. The bug is stuffed with poly fiber fill.

There is not much I would do differently with this bug. He’s the perfect length, even though I made him slightly shorter than the recommended size. There is a smaller, pill-bug sized example, and I may tackle that one after some time.
My little beastie would not be out of place in Alice in Wonderland. For the moment, the bug is draped on my easy chair, but I might use him as a bed bolster for awhile.
Next up in amigurumi will be a raven to add to my bird collection.
Thanks for checking in! See you again soon.
No wonder you bonded! He is gorgeous. Your doggie looks quite at home with him too. I love the photo of him outside on the bush. He would definitely get lots of attention from passers by. I don’t think I’d have the patience to make all those legs! What a fun project though!
