Just had to share some of the fruits (awww...) of my latest crochet efforts: crocheted pumpkins! 'Tis the time of year again for crocheted and knitted pumpkin patterns, and I really love this one - it is so easy to make, and the pattern is free (click here)! Small pumpkins: about 15cm in diameter using… Continue reading Crocheted Pumpkins (free pattern)

New tasseled shawl; Autumn views of my neighborhood
Just checking in with some photos of my recent walks in my neighborhood, plus a new shawl. The folk village is one of my favorite local walks in autumn. Every year the rice crop fades from vivid green to a stunning gold hue before it's harvested, and it makes for a wonderful photo op. The… Continue reading New tasseled shawl; Autumn views of my neighborhood
WIP update – weekend makes
Just a quick one to give a progress report on some current projects. I’ve finally hooped up the Ukrainian mandala, which measures about 16 inches across. It isn’t as tightly stretched as I’d like, but still good for display. Now I’m inspired to do a bigger one, and maybe add fringe or even beads. PHOTOS:… Continue reading WIP update – weekend makes
Harvest Poncho is finished
The Harvest Poncho is now done. This chunky, cowl-neck creation is from a free pattern by Crochet With Carrie. I used Vanna's Choice yarn in Silver Blue (a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn) and a 6mm hook. The garment has a pronounced texture that eats up a lot of yarn, so I used almost exactly… Continue reading Harvest Poncho is finished
Early holiday toymaking – Mr. Gnome is done
My first holiday craft for 2022 is finished! This adorable gnome pattern was a wonderful way to get back into toy making. I chose to make him in a more traditional "Santa-like" color scheme, with a red hat, mitten, and boots, and a white beard dressed with red and green cord. He could be made… Continue reading Early holiday toymaking – Mr. Gnome is done
Peek at summer trip photos; my crochet project this month
Greetings from Korea! I came back from California about three weeks ago, and have since started my new semester. I've had a hard time getting back into blogging after coming back, but I'm working on posting more regularly from now on! One gets busy simply living life, and occasionally neglects to document things. A view… Continue reading Peek at summer trip photos; my crochet project this month
San Diego Botanic Garden; random WIPs
With only about a week left of my trip home in California, I guess it's time to share a few things here on the ol' blog. I've been up and down the state these last four weeks, and I have a lot of wonderful photos I'll share in the coming days. Last week, Mom and… Continue reading San Diego Botanic Garden; random WIPs
Leaf mandala
The leaf mandala/doily is now done and blocked! I’m considering how to hang this lovely work. It is roughly 16.5 inches (41cm) in diameter, and could be strung up on a ring, if I can find one that’s not much wider than this. Beginning Close to the finish Detail PHOTOS: Crocheted mandala using Olympus crochet… Continue reading Leaf mandala
New gradient shawl finished
The Soul of the Sea shawl is now done and ready to wear. It's made from coordinating cotton blend Scheepjes Whirl and Whirlette yarns in colorways 783 Brambleberry, and 868 Bilberry, respectively. Super fun project and I can't wait to wear it or give it away. I'm still deciding whether to made tassels for the… Continue reading New gradient shawl finished
Circular cardigan; dog show highlights
I just finished a unique circular cardi, using Lang Yarns Wool Addicts "Sunshine" mercerized cotton, a worsted chainette yarn. This shade of gold is really pretty, but I think it has been discontinued. The pattern is a simple and very fast-moving one that starts in the center of the back medallion, and is worked in… Continue reading Circular cardigan; dog show highlights
