My Makes

Merry Christmas! Origami star

Warm Christmas wishes to you dear reader! My uni term has recently ended and I’ve managed to get back to some crafting and travel preparations. I’m headed to San Diego in January for a few weeks of R and R.

Earlier his week, I pulled out some of my fabulous Japanese foil paper to make star package tie-ons. This lovely pattern is from I. Sasaki gift wrapping techniques on Youtube (see the video and my steps, below). If you try this pattern, I recommend using paper colored on both sides. I used paper with a foil finish on one side, which gave the paper a nice heft.

Squares of 15 or 18 centimeters work best here. I made a star with 12 cm paper, and although the result was pretty, it was challenge to assemble the parts due to its small finished size.

The paper had to be cut precisely in half to use five of the six rectangles, so I needed an Exacto knife. Also, at one stage of the figure, a point is folded down to about 20% of the paper’s length, so I needed a ruler to get it right.

These stars are great for package tie-ons, garlands, table and tree decor, and more. Check out the steps in the video below. In fact, I recommend this entire YouTube channel for its beautiful and achievable wrapping techniques.

About a week ago, Bodhi and I visited Aniband dog shelter in Goyang city, close to Seoul. We brought some donated items, treats, and met the dogs. One tiny girl will be joining our pack at the beginning of 2026. I’ll post when she is finally installed here at home. In the meantime, I made a few items to welcome her, including a doggie dress and a scarf based on her measurements.

It got me thinking of Bodhi’s first sweater I made him back in August 2019, when he first came home. My best boy has come a long way since then.
