Craft update: new amigurumi WIP

Dear friends, just checking in with a craft status update. Last time I wrote, I mentioned a few amigurumi ideas that have been on the back burner for some time. I decided to launch into a new one this week – a musical UFO, for which I was finally able to assemble all the little parts. The figure has a particular backstory that I’ll reveal once the whole project is complete.

I’m going about this project a little out of order. I decided to start with one of the accessories, a tiny white cow. Anyone who is a fan of UFO lore will probably see where this is going!

The cow is tiny, and so is the hook I used: a vintage aluminum B hook (2.25mm), and some of my favorite amigurumi yarn brands, mostly Phildar Phil Coton 3. The tiny hook makes the stitches very tight, which is desirable for a stuffed toy. The finished cow, with its little horns, udder, and tail, measures about 8.5cm (3 inches) in height. I’ll be using the same type of yarns and B hook for the rest of the project.

The parts pictured above – sequins, plastic dome, metal ring, safety eyes, and music box – as well as the specialty metallic yarn, will form the UFO and alien. I’ll invite your imagination to guess the outcome!

Meanwhile, I always need something “easy” to do when I need a meditative break. I’ve begun a new circular shawl using a simple repeat double-crochet and chain pattern, using King Cole Riot gradient yarn in shade 3349 Sea Breeze, and a 5.00mm hook. The mixed blues, greens, and natural colors are so fresh. The yarn’s fiber content is 30% wool and 70% acrylic, which will make for a welcome layer of warmth this autumn.

That’s all for the moment. Thank you so much for stopping by! I’ll be back soon to share some local culture and a favorite Korean summer treat.
